NBDPN 2020 ANNUAL MEETING UPDATE


The National Birth Defects Prevention Network (NBDPN) Executive Committee has decided to hold the NBDPN 2020 Annual Meeting as scheduled. NBDPN continues to monitor the rapidly evolving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation. The health, safety, and well-being of our members and partners are our top priorities. We will notify all registrants immediately of any changes. The National Birth Defects Prevention Network (NBDPN) will hold its 23rd Annual Meeting from March 9-11, 2020 in Arlington, VA with a pre-conference training to be held on March 8, 2020. As the only national conference for population-based birth defects surveillance programs in the United States, participants are given an opportunity to learn about current advances and opportunities for birth defects surveillance, research, intervention, and prevention through sharing of best practices at state, local and national levels.

Registration Information

Meeting registration (on or before February 14, 2020) is $350. Registration after February 14, 2020 will be $400. Registration for one-day attendees is as follows: Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 10 will be $160 each day; Wednesday, March 11 will be $80 . The pre-meeting training is an additional $50. There is a $50 cancellation fee if the cancellation occurs on or before February 14, 2020. Barring unforeseen circumstances, no refunds will be issued after this date. Hotel Reservations

A block of rooms at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View (NBDPN 2020 Annual Meeting) has been reserved at the prevailing rate of $239/night plus occupancy taxes (13.25%). Hotel room reservations can be made online, or call Marriott reservations at (703) 413-1300 and reference event name "NBDPN 2020 Annual Meeting."

Call for Poster Abstracts

Information about the "call for poster abstracts" is available at http://www.nbdpn.org/call_for_posters.php. The deadline for poster submission is January 10, 2020. Submitters will be notified of their acceptance no later than Friday, January 24, 2020. If you submit an abstract earlier, you will receive notice of acceptance earlier. For all accepted abstracts, a final abstract and PDF will be due no later than Friday, January 31, 2020.  If a PDF copy of the poster is not received, the poster will not be eligible for awards.

Social Event

The NBDPN will host a social event on Monday, March 9, 2020. This year's social event is 'Monuments by Moonlight' a trolley tour of the major sites on the DC Mall including stops at the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Iwo Jima Marine Memorial. The tour will also pass by the White House, Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, and the Capitol. This is a fully narrated tour and will last approximately 3 hours. The cost to attend is $48. Silent Auction

The Silent Auction is back! See how creative you can be coming up with items to donate. As always contributions of artwork, crafts, books (both academic and those for leisure reading), music, jewelry, and accessories are most welcome. Specialty foods, libations and baskets of goodies from your state, region or country are a big hit as well. Consider offering your home or vacation house as a weekend getaway, since these items boost the earnings from this great event. As you know, your donation is tax deductible and your participation in the event is appreciated. If you would like to donate one or more items to the silent auction please go here.     This award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of birth defects. Since 2001, NBDPN has presented this prestigious award in Dr. Oakley’s honor. Submit a nomination for this award here.
  • Birth Defects Education & Prevention Award
    This award honors an agency's or birth defects program's efforts to raise public awareness of birth defects through innovative and collaborative projects. Submit a nomination for this award here.
  • State Leadership Award
